CLINICAL DERMATOLOGY

THE SCIENCE OF THE SKIN, HAIR AND NAILS

Clinical Dermatology is the speciality of medicine that encompasses the complete range of diseases and conditions of the skin, hair and nails. Skin, the largest organ, visibly covers more than 90 percent of the body; hair and nails comprise another 8 percent. The average adult has an estimated 10-30 pounds of skin, yet it carries the weight of our entire body, is elastic and maintains its shape. Skin sloughs off 30-40,000 cells per day, renews itself every 4 weeks, and never wears out.

  • Dermatosurgery
  • Electrosurgery
  • Cryotherapy
  • Sclerotherapy

DERMATOSURGERY

Dermatosurgery is the application of surgical techniques with the goal to remove benign and cancerous skin lesions.
A surgical removal is the first choice for malignant skin lesions. An additional plethora of benign skin lesions, the removal of which is desirable, as well as lipomas, dermoid cysts, hypetrophic scars, keloids and others, which can be tackled with dermatosurgery.
Dermo-surgical interventions take place in the surgical room of the clinic, usually last less than 30 minutes and require local anesthesia.
Lesions removed by dermatosurgery are sent to a pathology laboratory for a histopathological examination.

  • Removal of benign skin lesions
    • Lipoma
    • Dermoid cyst
    • Keloid

ELECTROSURGERY

Electrosurgery (diathermy and electrocautery) is a technique widely used in surgical dermatology. The same principles that apply to each electrosurgical procedure are valid for electrosurgery in dermatology.
Electrosurgery is used for the following dermatopathies:

  • Non cancerous moles (electrosurgery is not used to remove suspected or confirmed melanoma)
  • Condylomas (Warts)
  • Verrucas (Papillomas)
  • Angiomas and pyogenic granulomas
  • Seborrheic keratosis

CRYOTHERAPY

Cryotherapy, which is also called cryosurgery, cryothermy or targeted cryothermal therapy, is a minimally invasive treatment that uses extremely low degrees to freeze and destroy pathological tissues, including cancer cells.
Cryotherapy is used to treat:

  • Condylomas (Warts)
  • Verrucas (Papillomas)
  • Actinic and seborrheic keratosis
  • Pre-cancerous skin conditions
  • Skin nodules

SCLEROTHERAPY

This common treatment is used for spider veins and varicose veins. In this procedure, the doctor injects a chemical (Aethoxysklerol 1%®) into the veins to seal. Without blood flow, the vein becomes scar tissue and eventually weakens. The treatment is repeated every 4-6 weeks.
This treatment is done without anesthesia. You can return to normal activity immediately after treatment.
